Nature v Nurture
Religion traditionally takes the view that our sexual orientation is part of nuture in its simple form what society feeds us we turn into. The teachings of the bible are either based on how you interpret them and using the bible out of context. Without getting too deep into theology some religious groups are anti gay and there is minority groups that are pro gay.
But general we see the church thinks we have learnt to be gay. However the Scientist and Medical authorities point us to nature as the cause. A common idea we are born this way.
So the church has had over 2000 years to educated us not to be gay. The problem is that if we had learnt it why has the church failed to eradicated all the gays off the planet? Because there is a error in the teaching. They thought it was a learnt activity like you choose to rob a bank you choose to be gay. My first question is why would anyone want to choose to be gay? I could write a long list of reasons why I don’t want to be gay.
- I personally don’t want to be gay I want to be like everyone around me with a partner, get married and have children
- My parents and family don’t want me to be gay
- My friends and acquaintances don’t want me to be gay
- My local church don’t want me to be gay
- My school or employer don’t want me to be gay
- My Groom or Bride would not want me to be gay
That should be enough to put millions off choosing to be gay.
This brings us back to the word nature up until the 50′s in the UK the medical authorities classed being gay as an illness. In the USA much later. But today they no longer see it as an illness but part of your nature. A part of what you are, that makes you you!.
When I was a child a fought and wrestled not to be gay because it would mean I was different to my friends if the voice in my head was to be agreed with. I became an adult when I stopped fighting against my nature and followed my instinct.
Coming to terms with your sexuality is like traveling along a rocky path easily to trip up along the way.
