With the ever increasing demands from educational publishers, social workers, teachers and government authorities for statistics and information.
The unit was introduced to address the lack of information on gay issues affecting young people globally.
Gayteens.org goes to Print in the United Kingdom
Our latest project was published (September 2001) by INDENPENDENCE
Educational publishers in the UK titled 'Sexuality' Chaptered 'Background to homophobia'.
The publication is distributed to all colleges and schools in the UK and is available from the libary reference and part of the sociology degree and CCE sylabus.
The National Working Group on sex education in schools in the UK
In May 2000 we were sent a report on the PSHE for school by the Education and Health departments. We addressed the lack of specific reference to Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual issues in the report. We also concluded that the National Working Group Panel failed to have experts on the working group from representation from the schools of Psychology and LGB groups. We concluded that over all, it was the first report and that changes were required in the National Working
Group Panel. There must be representatives on the panel who are familar with Education Psychology and Gay youth.
We are currently investigating the following:
- Gayteen suicide link with countries that have a higher age of gay consent law in particular Washington DC, Spain and British Isles. Aims - Methods-
Conclusion
- Schools - Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Sexual Health Provisions 1999-2005
- Equality Campaign 2000 - age of gay consent to 16 year olds
- Reforms of the Sexual Offences Acts - Home Office consutation paper
- Section 28 - Reforms
Future projects:
- Addressing the religions homophobic beliefs and doctrines reforms to stop the attacks against nature and to adopt the BMA reports on Homosexuality that it is a nature not a learnt belief.
- Equality: gay marriages, adoption and all areas of society
- Homophobia - Discrimination and bullying in the work place and in schools
The Reports:
Provisional report findings - higher levels of gayteen suicides in countries with a higher age of gay consent laws.
